Coffee ~ Vacation in a Cup @ Coorg

Coffee enthusiast's heaven, nature lover's paradise, traveler's destination.......everything describes the perfect holiday one word Coorg. Also known as Kodagu, Coorg remains one of the top places to visit in India. Settled in the western ghats of Karnataka its about a 4 to 4.5 hour drive from Bangalore.

On our first wedding anniversary we decided to make a trip to Orange County, Coorg. My in-laws live in Bangalore, so we flew from Bombay to Bangalore, spent a night with them and proceeded the next morning to Coorg by car. The best months to visit Coorg are October to May and we made the trip in the month of February 2010. The drive was very comfortable thanks to the good roads that we Bombayites are unfortunately not destined to have in our city. We reached Orange County at lunch time and after a smooth and quick check-in we were shown our room and then proceeded to have lunch.

The rooms were set in a villa and we were in one of the "coffee cluster" villas. The room was spacious with a king sized bed and open bathroom to enjoy bathing while taking in the nature surrounding us. There was also a little balcony / sit out with a small coffee table and chairs.

There were activities going on in the resort everyday. Starting with the early morning bird walk, to the plantation walk, the cultural show and the boat ride, no stone was left unturned to keep the guests entertained.

We spent one evening at the plantation walk where we were shown how coffee beans are grown and processed. We learnt how pepper was cultivated and also a lot about the other plants and trees in the resort. That night we were part of the cultural program of dance and skits.

The next day we stepped out and visited Dubare elephant camp. Every morning the mahouts bring their elephants to the banks of river Cauvery for a bath. We took a little boat and crossed the river to the site where the elephants bathe. After a little cajoling one mahout agreed to let me scrub the elephant....oh what an experience it was!

Our next stop was the Buddhist Golden Temple at Bylakuppe. A calm, serene and beautiful temple with  throngs of tourists flocking in and out.

On the way back to the resort we stopped at Nisargadhama Ecological Park, a nature lover's paradise it's filled with a lush foliage of thick bamboo groves. We spent some time at the deer park inside feeding cucumbers to the deer.

The last day we decided to make the most of the resort. We both got traditional Ayurveda oil massages at the spa which lived up to their promise of "rejuvenate, regenerate and revitalize." After feeling energized, we took a dip in the infinity pool and spent the evening at the reading lounge.

The reading lounge was my favorite part of the resort. Set on stilts overlooking the paddy fields, it is such a quiet and serene environment that it can lull you to sleep. But the unlimited cappuccinos and wide choice of coffee table books can make time fall short.

Saraswati was the employee who looked after the reading lounge and made coffee there. She is today known as The First Lady of Coffee and truly so!

I have had the most aromatic and delectable coffees here made by Saraswati with her gentle mannerisms and magnetic smile and I wish to go back there someday to spend many more hours at the reading lounge drinking her coffee and doing what I love the most....reading.

It was a wonderful stay made even more special by the staff who pampered us, fed us scrumptious meals and showed us what hospitality par excellence truly means! Such was our stay there that my cousin and also my sister in law went to Orange County for their respective honeymoons and came back with the same stories to tell!

Barnyard Theme 2nd Birthday

Our son turned 2 last month and we decided to throw a Barnyard theme birthday party for him. After the Dr. Seuss themed first birthday party last year, this year we chose a theme he could relate to and enjoy. He can now recognize all farm animals and the sounds they make and Old MacDonald is one of his favourite nursery rhymes. It took weeks and weeks of preparations and that meant burning the midnight oil once again for us working parents, and a sabbatical for me from my blog for over 3 months. Here is all that we did and more.

Were made on photoshop by my husband and were sent out via email and whats app. We used the same invitations as reminders a week before the party for last minute rsvps.

Birthday Boy:
Ronav was dressed in denim overalls and a checked shirt to resemble a farmer in the barn, Mom and dad played their part too, wearing checked shirts and denims.

Barn Entrance:
Our main door was decorated to look like a barn door.

Go Green with Snappi Diaper Fasteners!

If you're planning to go the cloth diaper route, Snappis are a must have! Made in South Africa, they are a great substitute for diaper pins and so much safer too. I cannot imagine trying to fumble around with safety pins while the baby is squirming.I love using my Snappi! This product makes using prefolds almost as easy as using disposables. In fact, they are so easy to use even daddy has figured them out! You can fasten the diaper with just one hand and they really stay. With snappis, I can easily close prefolds, flats, fitted flats, and non-snap fitteds! There's no metal and no chance of poking the baby. They are stretchy, reusable, and extremely durable. I've even washed a Snappi on accident and it was still perfect. The composition is 100% polyurethane ( thus safe for the baby). A single snappi can last you the life of diapering your child (as long as you don't lose it!). And to add to a list of pros, they come in a variety of boy, girl and neutral colors. Also, th…

Dr Seuss themed 1st Birthday!

It seems like yesterday that we brought our son Ronav home from the hospital, but a year has just flown by and all that we are left with are memories and lots of photos!
Since my husband and I are huge Dr Seuss fans, we decided to throw Ronav a themed birthday party to satisfy the child within us. The planning and execution took 2 months of burning the midnight oil as that was the only time we would get after putting Ronav to bed. All the decorations were hand made by us, only the balloons were outsourced. Here's how we did it.
The Invitations: Were sent via what's app and email 3 weeks before the party and was created on photoshop.

Reminders:  Were sent out 4 days before the party to get a better idea of the RSVPs.

Thing 1 :
Ronav was Thing 1. We customized a T-shirt for him which read "Thing 1".

Mom & Dad of Thing 1 :
Mommy and Daddy got customized T-shirts too. They read "Mom of Thing 1" and "Dad of Thing 1".

Birthday Month Banner:  We took a …
